Here's a new pendant that started life during the ExtremeII class at AAE Glass. Tanya plans her pieces from the beginning and advises us to do the same. I try my best to plan out how it will look, and usually have an idea before I get started too -- however, my skills require me to be flexible! So when my sunset over a pond with a reflected tree idea didn't pan out - I was able to switch gears to create this desert landscape with the horses running free. That's my story - and I'm stickin' to it! Planning is fantastic - flexibility is even better!

Help A Pair of Rescued Dogs

Good Karma Pet Rescue is a local organization that rescues abandoned dogs and cats and finds excellent homes for them. Recently, Katie picked up two abandoned dogs on the street. Check this link for more information. They are taking donations via ChipIn to help with vet care for these sweet dogs. If you cannot donate, then please think good thoughts for the health and forever homes for these beautiful furbabies.

Worth It Wednesday: Trudeau Cool Off Hydration Bottle

Drink a lot of water? Hate having plastic bottles cluttering up your life and recycle bin? Feel guilty about not re-using? I can't recommend this hydration bottle by Trudeau enough!

You can find them on Amazon or sometimes in a store like Publix or Target. It holds 24 oz and the cup is double-walled so the water inside stays cool. I can even leave one in my car and so long as it is out of the direct Florida sun - it remains drinkable (though it will get warm or hot if it is there long enough or if it's August).

Like ice cubes in your water - GREAT! They fit right in through the wide opening. I have had no problems with washing it in the dishwasher.

It comes in many colors - get a selection! But be sure you know where they are since they get swiped by family members on a regular basis. Well, ok, maybe that's just my family.

I only had a problem with one bottle which started leaking out of the bottom about a month after I dropped it on concrete and it hit just right on the corner making a small crack. Obviously my fault for dropping it. I've been using these for several years and have dropped them now and again only that one ever started leaking.

Yes, it's a $10-$12 water bottle. Not the cheapest -- but in my opinion, the best!

My Rating: WORTH EVERY PENNY!

Happy New Year!! Yes, I realize that was a week ago, but what can I say....my blogging skills need improvement.

So this year, I intend to post much more often. Not a resolution, because we all know how those work out, but an intention.

I've opened a new online shop in addition to my Artfire studio. It's on SupaDupa (great name, isn't it?). Here's the link - http://m2bc.mysupadupa.com/ - stop by and check it out. Of course, you can still find Meant 2b Cherished at Artfire - after a good November and December I'm looking forward to a great 2012. I've also been doing some redecorating with a new logo style. I liked the gold/blue color scheme I had going, but it seems too "in your face". I want the jewelry to be in your face (or preferably on your neck, wrist, ears, etc.) so I cleaned up the frame so the picture would be the focal. What do you think??

I'm pretty excited about January - it is my birthday month so I always like that. Next week I'm attending a class with Tanya Veit of AAE Glass. A three day eXtreme fusing class - I cannot wait!!! She has a brand new studio in Cape Coral and after the class ends we will all spend time at the Cape Coral Festival of the Arts which sounds like great fun (though I may need to accidentally forget to bring my credit card). I just signed up for another class at her studio in April with David Alcala who has a very interesting take on creating with glass.

So, for me 2012 is off to a great start. I have a lot to do this year and plan to make it amazing. I mean, who knows, if the Mayans were right 2013 may be a whole new story!

So...make a wish and have a fabulous 2012!

I am so enjoying my adventures in glass! Here are my two latest listings on Artfire - I'm so happy with how these turned out and can't wait for them to find their way to the person who will cherish them!

First, here is an inverted, rounded triangle pendant. It is purple and blue dichroic glass etched with dimensional striping - reminding me of shadows or reflections. I named this pendant Reflection in Blue.

Second, is Sunset Contemplation. I am really proud of this pendant! I created an etched picture of a girl sitting beneath a tree on a hill. She is watching a couple of birds fly across the sunset sky.

Keep an eye out....there are more pendant coming!!

Today's Listings - July 9, 2011

I finally finished some of my works in progress and took proper photos. Well, I hope they are proper photos, I'm doing my best and am open to new suggestions.

First I have a bracelet made from braided gunmetal chain finished with a heart toggle clasp and a black lip mother of pearl dangle peace sign.

Next I added one of my new fused glass pieces - made using etched dichroic glass. I did the etching and the shaping of this freeform piece. Then I wire wrapped it and hung it from a sterling silver chain.

Finally, back to my first love, gemstones. This is a gorgeous tiger iron pendant accented with a hawk eye bead, wire wrapped with antique copper and on an antique copper chain. This necklace has a nice tribal feel to it.

Here is one of my new items. It is a gorgeous Drusy Agate Concho pendant wrapped in sterling silver and suspended from a necklace of clear quartz, charcoal gray and blue seed beads. The Drusy Agate Concho is also known by the trade name Amorite. I loved this natural stone from the minute I saw it the sparkle and depth is so uniquely beautiful.

Twelve Days of Christmas in July!

I cannot believe it is July already! I've had a busy year so far between the day job and trying to learn new techniques in the jewelry arts. So far this year I've been learning how to work with glass fusing. Lots to learn - but it makes my muse happy.

But, as I said, it's July so that means Artfire is having its 2nd annual Christmas in July event! The Twelve Days of Christmas in July runs from July 12 to July 24, 2010, and includes some absolutely spectacular items! For example:

Catching Up with the Crazy Train

Ut oh...I'm missing the train!!! I've been a bad blogger and failed to let you know about the last few riders! Here they are!

First we have Nightmaiden Designs - where magic thrives! She sells some beautiful jewelry, awareness products, home decor and original art and photography. Very busy girl!! Here's a beautiful and inspirational photograph from her studio.

Next, it seems I missed CharSpirit's ride as well. This is embarrassing especially since I am the proud owner of one of her handy and beautiful pocket tote bags! In addition to these bags, she also makes book covers, puppets, wands and organizers. This studio oozes creativity! Here's one of her fantastic pocket totes.

Egads! I missed Rose Garden Fibers too?? I've purchased from this artisan as well. My mother has one of her mobius scarves to keep her warm since she has moved away from our tropical south Florida home.

And as I finally catch up to the train, today's rider is Don't Know Publishing the art of Linda and Sean. Yet another studio I've done business with! (Hmmmm...I guess I shop a lot!) I have a set of their art cards - just waiting for the right occasion!

Today's Crazy Train Studio is D's Ardent Gifts! She makes pottery and candles and soy wax tarts -- apparently she likes fire! Her work certainly shows a great deal of passion!

I love the idea of wickless candles! Get a coffee warmer and you can enjoy the scent without worrying about burning down the house! Ohhhh....this one is ~Sinful Cinnamon~ bet that'll wake you the senses!

This week I'm featuring items and accessories for use when creating a joyful noise -- Music! Artfire has an eclectic selection of musical instruments and accessories for the musician in your life.

First we have an Udu, which is an African Hand Drum created by Amused Studios. I'd never heard one of these, but after a bit of research I can tell you an Udu drum has a wonderful sound! Amused Studios also has a wonderful selection of other ceramic items as well!

Prefer strings to drums? Well, as a drum addict all I can say is to each his or her own! Still....here is a really beautiful acoustic guitar etched with a lovely celtic design from Gypsy Trading Company. This studio also has a great selection of jewelry including some very cool steampunk designs.

Tucson, AZ – ArtFire has just announced that they will be giving away unlimited listings completely free for all sellers during the holiday season. This means that everyone can sell and list as many items as they wish for absolutely no cost or fees.

When they first launched, ArtFire revolutionized the handmade marketplace by making it completely free for users to sell online. Site members were able to list and sell up to 12 items at any point on the site, and could have unlimited listings with customizable features for the flat rate of $12/month. However, due to the current economic situation and the upcoming holiday season, ArtFire has decided to remove this 12 item limit for the shopping season, giving everyone on the site the option to list unlimited items for sale.

To make things even easier for sellers, ArtFire has also launched the Etsy Importer, allowing members to import all of their Etsy listings onto ArtFire quickly and easily. To help manage these imported listings, ArtFire is allowing free access for the month of October to their Global Product Editor, which gives sellers the chance to make batch edits to hundreds of products in their inventory at once.

Solitary Grace

Solitary Grace is the name of my new drum. It is made out of moose hide with an 18" cedar rim. So far it sounds beautiful to my whisper tapping - I can hardly wait for the next drum circle so I can really hear its voice and experience the vibration. I so love making drums....second only to playing them.

I started drumming when I was invited to a drum circle for peace back in 2003 - the addiction took hold immediately! I've tried to attend a circle at least once a month since and earlier this year started facilitating my own circle to so I could share the beat with more people. The shop that sponsors my drum circle has asked me to add another circle, but we haven't been able to work out a scheduling night. Solitary Grace is the 5th drum I've made with my own hands - though I have 4 other drums that were made for me by some of my wonderful friends and one I purchased when in Arizona a few years ago.

If you had told me prior to 2003 that I would enjoy drumming this much I'd have thought you were crazy. It's not just playing the drums either...I found my singing voice as well....and even learned to stop judging myself and my sound and just enjoy!

When I was a little girl, we had a choir director at our small church, she was also my piano teacher. She used to say "When we sing, we pray twice" -- I expanded on this concept when I first picked up a drum -- Add a drum and make it thrice!

3 for Thursday -- It's All About Furbabies!!

This week I decided to find items for spoiling our most-spoilable family members -- our pets! Whether its a dog, cat, bird, hamster, lizard or other non-human friend, you can probably find some fabulous handmade item for it on Artfire!

Ok...I have to start with SpoiledBratzWear! Her stuff is really inventive and her models are amazing! Now, I live down here in the Florida tropics so my dog really doesn't need extra clothes to keep him warm, but apparently there are dogs with very thin natural coats who don't live in the tropics. Believe me, SpoiledBratzWear has something for these dogs! Have a cat that needs some warmth? How about a cute sweater from Beantown Handmade? Now, my cat has fur and more fur - topped off with some fuzz! But this sweater is just too cute for words! Finally, when its time for a nice nap there's nothing like the perfect bed. How about a soft-sided pet bed from CutsiePoochie? She has her dog in the picture, but I'll bet a cat would snuggle into this one just as quickly! This bed can be used with or without the pillow or you can untie the sides for a larger blanket. Very versatile! Still more options for pets on Artfire! Happy September!! My three choices this week are in honor of my brother's 20th wedding anniversary! Happy Anniversary Len & Dawn!!!

When they met they lived in Atlanta and worked in a restaurant. I do believe some of their earliest encounters involved a bar of some sort..... So, here's a custom sign created by Tara Sasiadek.

After they got married...all those long, happy years ago....they moved and made their home in Michigan and raised two wonderful children. The family loves to go camping together so in honor of this activity and to honor Len & Dawn's continuing passion for each other and their family - here's a pack of firestarters from Crazy Times

I know its early...but how about an Ornament Drape created by Dancing Wind Designs? Sue has a great variety of these drapes in her Artfire Studio along with many other beautiful seed-bead designs.

Finally, how about some glass? These Yellow Mondrian Coasters from are bright and cheerful! I own one of her card holders and just love it!

Lately I've been thinking about my jewelry and trying to define my brand. As you can see, I work with a variety of techniques, beading, wire work, chainmaille and, of course, my latest love, kumihimo braiding. I've been calling it eclectic - which is accurate - but doesn't quite convey how I want people to see my work.

My goal is to create your favorite earrings. I want to create that fantastic necklace that goes with your weekend jeans as well as your weekday work attire. You know that great anklet that goes with your shorts and sandals and also compliments that cute skirt you like to wear to the clubs? I want to create that too! I'm also going to do my best so that you can afford it!

I hope that you love wearing one of a kind jewelry that you can't find anywhere else. If you want the same trendy jewelry that "everyone else" is wearing, you probably won't find it in my studio. If you want quality, hand crafted jewelry that is just a bit unexpected, come see what I have.

A Good Month

So....I know it has taken me 5 days to post this...but I'm a busy girl! I had a PERFECT month of jewelry for the March Item Per Day Challenge! I'm still pretty happy about it! Getting up earlier in the morning and getting something done before work makes all the difference. There is actually time that can be used before 7am -- who knew??

So far my April looks pretty good. Still working the kumihimo -- and loving it! The project I just finished took much longer than expected and I'm a bit disappointed with it. But it's all learning right? I just bought and downloaded a tutorial on doing beaded kumihimo. I'm looking forward to giving it a try. I attempted it last week, but without the instructions it was pretty sad.

I treated myself to a bead show this past weekend. I was looking for some beads in "spring" colors. Of course, I purchased some tourmaline and labradorite -- no spring colors! I'm no good at spring, I tend to be drawn to the darker, dramatic colors. I did get some pretty blue lace agate though. But the coolest thing I found was a kit for making Kumihimo - which is a form of Japanese braiding. The design possibilities are amazing with these techniques! I made my first piece Saturday night and have posted it in my Artfire Shop. Here is a picture:

I made another one last night which is still unfinished.

I love learning new things!

Tree of Life

Last Saturday I created my first "Tree of Life" pendant. I've been wanting to try one forever. I love trees -- they grow by both digging deep into the earth and reaching up to the heavens....existing in the balance of above and below. They grow where they are planted or where their seeds find a bit of nourishment. I always admire the trees growing from the sides of highway bridges - from between the cracks in the concrete. There is even a tree growing up in a storm drain at a nearby grocery store. It hasn't reached above the grate yet, but I cheer it on every time I walk by and see it.

So, here is my little forest of trees of life. I've been making them all week!

Trying something new

I love participating in the "item per day" challenge, but it is very difficult when I get home from the office to find the energy to create anything.....let alone the inspiration! On the weekends I seem to get more done because when I get out of bed I usually go directly to my jewelry bench and get something going. So, I decided to stop with the "I'm not a morning person" mantra and get up an hour earlier on weekdays. This will be easier once I stop staying up until midnight or later. So far it's working! On Monday I created a new necklace/earring set which is in my Etsy shop and yesterday and today I experimented with different ways to make earrings. Plus I'm a bit more awake and alert when it's time to head off to the day job since I've actually been up for more than the absolute minimum time it takes me to get ready for the day.

And, tonight I got another Etsy Treasury - promoting my friends on SATEAM from the Starving Jewelry Artists forums. Over The Rainbow Go check it out!

Sunday's musings on the Bark Park

Pretty easy-going day around here...made some new jewelry pieces, picked up a book I had on hold at the library and took poor Gatsby to the local Bark Park for some exercise.

I love watching the dogs at the park. They don't care who is a pure bred, who is what color (or many colors), who is big or small or old or young. They take each dog as an individual...do their sniffing...find out what they need to know and either play with that dog or they move on. My Gatsby is a greeter he is friendly and meets each dog with a sniff and a tail wag...sometimes he plays chase for a few minutes...but mostly he greets and then moves on his way to his own adventures. Kind of a loner...like his owner. Friendly, but not close. That is, until my mother arrives at the park with HER dog, Caesar. Gatsby loves Caesar...they run and play with each other for a while and then find wherever my Mom and I have settled down to sit beside us and enjoy just being outside.

I managed to spend a good bit of time at my jewelry bench today. I re-wrapped a piece of kyanite into a pendant for my friend Nancy. The original wrapping was not quite strong enough for the large stone. I also wrapped a fire jasper stone and a quartz point - both of which I listed in my Artfire Studio.

Starving Jewelry Artist - Winter Wonderland Challenge

Over at the Starving Jewelry Artists website, we just completed the 3rd Challenge - this month's theme was "Winter Wonderland" and the clear winner, running away with it was "Seasoned Beads" created by Beadsbeadingbeaded (a.k.a. Erin) whose artistry with seed bead looming is absolutely amazing. You can see the challenge entries and prior challenge information at the TSJA Connection. There are some seriously beautiful pieces entered!

I found the Starving Jewelry Artists on March 22nd of last year. What an amazing site - supportive, friendly, fun, etc. I've learned so much and have been inspired into learning (or planning to learn) new techniques. Last November we started an Etsy team which has been a great experience. You should see us snag Treasuries! It's pretty easy to curate a beautiful selection when you start from our team's work! Fun too.

I managed to damage a tendon or something in my left hand which has kept me away from my workbench for many weeks now. It's driving me crazy, but it is also improving every day. I'm planning to hit the bench tomorrow and will hopefully get a few things accomplished.
